Way to go on your attitude! You obviously know that 60 is a speed limit and not a limit to what you can learn!
One suggestion is that you connect with your local workforce center in your community. Ask about funding from the Workforce Investment Act. You may qualify for funds to get training or re-training that is free or at a very reduced cost. Ask about your eligibility as a displaced worker under this law. If you are eligible, you will be able to get support for the re-training that you need--usually from a community or technical college, although other education options may be available.
Another suggestion is to contact your local Area Agency on Aging. Area Agencies on Aging are one of the best-kept secrets for Americans who are age 60 and better and those caring for older relatives or friends. These organizations will be able to tell you about other options that might be available to you as a job-seeker needing re-training. Some of these agencies also sponsor programs for older job-seekers.
You can call toll-free 1-800-677-1116 to find out the Area Agency on Aging serving the county where you live. I am confident that you will find helpful and friendly people there who will listen and provide insights and information that would be helpful to you.
Hope this helps. Again, congratulations on your new adventure! Good luck and best wishes!

You have to apply for your FAFSA (federally funded aid/grants) and go into the school to see what scholarships are available...( In FL the state funded grants are dispersed direstly to the colleges and given out by them) Some of the scholarships I had gotten are childcare scholarship and a student support scholarship(thru the school/state) Most of your money should come from federal level (FAFSA). In all, I got BACK almost $2000 after tuition, books, lab and general fees, and will get another $1700 at the end of the semester (the amount reimbersed for tuition)
And just so you know, you can fill out a FAFSA just to see how much will be paid for, you dont have to go to college that year. It is not a commitment. And if your state gives grants indivisually, visit or call the financial aid office @ the college you are interested in and they can give you more information. Also check for private grants and scholarships sponsered by local companies/organizations

You might want to check with the local community college about programs for senior citizens which could be located in the financial aid office. Sometimes, they have programs that allow senior citizens to attend for free or a discounted rate. Another approach is to contact the local welfare or workforce office because they have programs to help people re enter or enter the workforce which can include training.

Aside from FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov and Pell Grant http://studentaid.ed.gov/students/publications/student_guide/2004_2005/english/types.htm , you may want to explore private foundation grants
For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online http://gtionline.fdncenter.org . It's a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) and their opening blurb only says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices."

First you would need to fill out a FAFSA. You can't get any financial aid without it. That's the first website listed below. The next step would be to search a financial aid/scholarship listing. Fastweb is a good one. That's the second website below. Good luck!
