If you are going to freeze it anyway, do it as soon as you buy it...
A "fresh" fish, if you haven't caught it yourself is not all that fresh, It takes at least 24 hours to bring it from where it was caught to where you bought it...It is evidently kept refrigerated during the transportation, but it is best to not keep fresh fish for more than 48 hours in your fridge.. After that you will see that the eyes begin to sink into the head, and the gills will start to lose their reddish pink colour... A clear sign that the fish is no longer truly fresh...

I think fish can go bad rather quick, so, I would only keep a few days in the Fridge and then freeze it. Normally I buy/catch my fish the day I will eat it. I know Shrimp can be real dangerous if it go bad, been there done that, and it not taste bad, but, oh man it make you sick. So, I assume this for all fish.

To keep it as fresh as when you caught it you should freeze it the same day. Run it under fresh water before you freeze it so it will have a glaze on it and it won't get freezer burn.

Hi there! I used to work in the seafood department at Wegmans. The rule of thumb was the fish is good for up to three days after you buy it, and put it in the refrigerator. I'd say put it in the freezer from day one if you know you're not going to use it.

No more than a day. Store on ice in the fridge. If you know you are going to freeze it, go ahead and do that promptly.

You should always cook fish the day you buy it. If you are not going to cook it the day you buy it you should put it straight in the freezer when you get home from the store.

Fresh flounder flesh should still be lightly coated with transparent slime; ... up to two months in a refrigerator and for three to four months in a deep-freeze. ...
