I'm about to move to the UK soon, using my EU passport (of Slovakia).
In the UK, I'd like to be self-employed, selling tiny statues made by a friend - a highly valued young artist.
Suppose initially I'd sell only a few statues per day (too low a volume for a company...), what "documentation" must I have (from the UK authorities) in order to be allowed to start selling?

Thank you.

Just to clarify to some kind responders: I don't want anything from the government, don't seek at all to live my life on the expense of the British taxpayer, and am not interested to hurt anyone. Just a young engineer who wants to make some money, come back and develop his country.

Thank you.

If you are moving to the U.K from an E.U member state, you are perfectly able to start your business selling statues almost from the day you arrive. Since the statues are not consumable food items, are not Childrens Toys, are not acoholic beverages, cigarettes or such items, then there is little in the way of documents that are needed, the only documents I can see you might need is documents registering you as self employed for tax reasons, and proving that they are made in Slovakia
and they might be taxable items in terms of import duties betwene the member states, that you can confirm with U.K customs and Excise anyway. Visit U.K Revenue & customs at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk and also http://www.customsandexcise.com good luck to you.

Dublover, he is entilted to move to the U.K, all E,U citizens are under the "free movement of goods services and people", he is a European member state citizen, cut the crap! He is "self Employed" meaning he creates his own work!

I tend to agree with Dublover. Why come to the UK, because if it does'nt work out we'll find you accomadtion and supply you with an income, give you free health care and anything else you want. That's why all immigrants bypass France, Germany , Belguim and all the other EU countries and head striaght for the UK, because we're a soft touch. Bliar wants to get to grips with what the vast majority of the UK feels, we've had enough immigrants, it's time to stop!

we don't need anymore foreigners here. there are too many already and not enough jobs so why don't you think twice and stay put. if anyone out there doesn't like this answer, then take a good look at where you live and see if I'm wrong, then leave me alone
