We did this experiment in Psychology class. Let me tell you I despise onions...I always have and always will. So anyway The teacher put blindfolds on us and made us hold our noses shut so we could not smell anything. Then she gave us a bite of those three raw foods and other than the texture you could not tell any other difference until you let go of your nose. You could figure out which was which because of the texture but they had no flavor to me until I opened my nose and I about got sick because of the onion. You should try that with some people...its pretty amazing!! Hope this helps!!

Where did you hear about that? I mean the apple is a fruit, the onion and potato are vegetable's. Plus they all have different textures. I guess they are all similar in shape?

I learned once that if it was dark and you couldn't see, and someone handed you a potato and said it was an apple, you'd bite into it and think it really was an apple. It's as if your brain has to identify it in order to tell your tongue what to taste. Onions, I don't know.

.... um, NO! All are different textures, have varying levels of sugars and acidity. NO.

If you don't believe me, try making an Onion Pie using an Apple Pie recipe, pinch your nose, and see if it tastes the same.
