Is there a sniff of a patronising way, in the approach of new converts ? (to any faith)?

It is called "the stink" in the far east. Too often it is the case that new converts have a zeal to be on the right path that spills over negatively on those around them. They remind me, in a way of those who have quit smoking. A certain whiff of "holier than thou."
