According to independent studies that factor in a number of aspects such as infrastructure, incomes, healthcare, poverty, crime, education, personal liberties, life expectancies, demographics, etc. the USA is not the best place to live.
The top three countries are all in northern Europe: Iceland, Norway and Sweden. But it's too cold there for me, plus they don't speak English.
There are only three english speaking countries in the Top 10 of the list, they are: Australia, Canada and New Zealand
Canada is out of the question for me, because it's too close to the US and plus it's also cold there.
So my two choices are really just Australia and/or New Zealand.
My question is, if there are any US Expats who have made the decision to leave and settle in another country for a better quality of life, which of these two countries is better and which country is easier to get legal residence papers for?
I'm specifically interested in Australia and New Zealand.
Thanks in Advance!

Samuel, They do speak English in all three of the countries you mentioned actually ! Dont let the cold weather put you off, they have great summers in Sweden and Norway! If you really want heat, then a lot of US citizens are moving South to Central and South America actually, those popluar countries are:
1. Belize
2. Panama
3. Costa Rica
4. Honduras
5. Nicaragua
6. Uruguay
7. Brazil
8. Mexico
9. US Virgin Islands
10. Bahamas
If your income is above $2,000 per month you can become resident in many of the above places with minimum paperwork, you can slo mve as an investor to some countries with as little as $30,000 USD. So OZ and nw Zealand are not your only possibilities, take a look at http://www.internationalliving.com for more great ideas. Then "make haste" while the sun shines! and if that door does hit you inthe backside you make sure you turn around and "blow it off its hinges" mate LOL

I'd just start learning a new language and move to Sweden. I lived in Europe years ago, and it is hillarious how so many countries have higher standards of living than America.
Switzerland is another great place to move to. In Denmark and Norway people can walk into a building leaving baby carriages out, knowing they'll be there in safety...
Australia is beautiful! Some areas preserve prehistoric features, and you're a hop away from Antartica.
No, the US is not the place to live.

I live in Czechoslovakia (Czech rep) and I think it's pretty boring over here if you don't drink. This is pretty little country. My opinion is come here to see it xD. Claiming of that the girls in that and that country are the most beautiful is the most silliest thing to think xD. In every country are beautiful and ugly girls and we don't have so big population so over here is a little percentage of girls than in US. Hey we would exchange our passports - I want to move there you want to move out. I always thought US citizens are welcome anywhere because of their status "currently living in high desirable place". I can't tell you about communism much because I haven't existed yet. We are currently the same business place as United States - you can do the same things over here. With a few exceptions - anywhere you go it's so diplomatic because of our T-V distinction. English works for me like talking with old friends even while you talk to your boss. You would proly want to see Prague or Hradec Kralove - there's a lot of foreign students and English is very fluent.

I have at times thougt about the best place to live, not in an expat sense, but in what if and where to go. Also, who has'nt thought about traveling. Australia has come to my great attenton. In my searches I found that a construction worker will get alot of help to become a citizen and investing in the country in a monatary way. Not, crooked just like bonds and so on.
If you come across any info for the best place within Australia, just send me an email. bretthackenberg@yahoo.com

It's not east to emigrate to Australia and in New Zealand it would be hard to make a living unless you were a professional or medical technician. It doesn't appear as if you are either of the two. In the US it seems to me that it is apparent that the location that you choose to live in dictates the lifestyle that you are apt to be living. You can choose Malibu Beach California or Bayonne New Jersey which means you could be relaxing on a sandy beach or watching imbeciles in cages fighting like trained pit bulls. Or you could go to Texas and "Escape" to Mexico!

LMAO at all the angry American responses to this question. One thing I keep reading over and over again is "don't let the door hit you on the way out" as if they are throwing him out...What a bunch of morons.
If this guy has done his research and has factual evidence that other countries are better and he wants to move there, then why are all of you Nazi Nationalists throwing sissy fits because he wants to leave?Does it bother you to hear the truth that America is not the best place in the world?
Yes, many poor immigrants come here, but look at where they come from. Over 80% of them come from Mexico.Go do your thing, Samuel, and good luck. Sorry I can't help you with your question though.

I cannot begin to tell you were to go. It looks like you have done your research and I think you will be able to make an educated guess on your own. I would like to comment however...
The details to your question are interesting. In the past I have worked with a few Africans. They came here legally to "seek a better life". They (all six of them) had one thing in common. They all said that the USA is not what they expected. After my further inquiry I learned that they all thought the US was "The Land of Opportunity" and that they learned that it is in fact not so. As a matter of fact they all commented that the only way you could better yourself by coming to the US is to do it illegally, work, and send money home. Once you have built up a nice nest egg...return to your home land.
Knowing immigrants has givin me a whole new view of how they opperate. This is why I detest ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS! They are here to better their lives alright. HOWEVER they are only here to take advantage of our money and government services. This in tern falls in the laps of tax payers. They get to take advantage of the monetary conversion and get a practically free ride (government services, medical, etc.) all the while. Its dishonest and a shame.

You are the perfect example of what IS wrong with much of America. You are faced with a moral dilemma - living in a country whose values and culture you find repugnant and yet those countries you find most attractive to you, are rejected due to issues of convenience (climate and language). If you are willing to uproot and move, does not your moral courage provide you with the strength to endure a cooler climate or learn a new language.
Hence your convictions prove rather weak. Either move or stop whining and try to be a part of a solution.

Samuel, you really must be a troubled soul. You really want to leave the area that is the best overall place to live for another country, then go, and don't let the door hit you in the behind on the way out. You are making a mistake, but that is your choice, do not expect much support here.

You don't have to escape from the USA all you have to do is leave.I for one would contribute a few dollars towards that end.We don't need people like you that cant or wont help this country.I really doubt you are a citizen any way and perhaps just a person wishing to exercise their hate for this country. Please I certainly hope if you are in fact a citizen that you find your way to your Utopia and soon
because we don't need any more people that hate this country.I feel pity for you that you cant see the beauty and hope I see in this nation and its people.Make sure you denounce your citizenship from the USA because you wont be welcomed back ,I'm sure
tonim.
what did you expect loyal Americans to say ? Don't be foolish, there are more of us that love our country than those who don't.We can fix the USA we cant fix stupidity in anyone that's their choice but don't expect us to not stand up for this country if we love it.
