Should we teach about diversity, different races and religion in school?

(Like my mom said "el que nada debe nada teme": in this situation this means is up to you to teach your own believes to kids at home)

That said, I think that teaching kids about cultural, racial and religous diversity is a must, and I would not be opposed to my son learning about: Latinos, Blacks, Whites, Asian, Mediterranian, Indians, etc... Or Asian culture, Latino Heritage, Australian aborigenes, etc Or religion for that matter, Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, paganism, etc etc....

Stick to the question please!!!!!!!! no insulting participants

Yes these subjects should be taught in a non-judgmental way. I learned about Judaism in 2nd grade and had many different faiths and ethnicities in my school. It made me tolerant and also, at ease with people different from myself. We are all humans after all.

I am in Scotland and in our schools this is exactly what they do

we have multi cultural schools and although they are chistian based ( merely due to the origins )
they do teach about different culture and religion
they even have lunches for those who are on religious diets and encourage the other children to try those foods etc
the children at these schools are the most compassionate i have seen in regards to cultural differences

sadly though they do not teach my own religion lol ... but i am trying to change that

Yes, you're right. The only way to stop adults from hurting each other is to educated them as kids. Every group deserves respect and every group must respect others. I'm not sure that I would educate kids to respect every groups action, however. For instance, would you teach kids to tolerate genital mutilation of adolescent girls, so-called "female circumcision"? I respect the religious beliefs of everyone. I'm more troubled about some (very few) practices, however. What do you think?

Religion should never be taught in schools. Teachers should stick to teaching the fundamentals or reading, writing, math, science, and history.

And race is a part of history, but it should be taught without political statement by the teachers.

I think schools should teach about all people and ways of life. But, easier said than done.

I once was leader of a Brownie Scout troop. I taught them songs and dances from around the world, mentioned different races and ideas---for a 7-8 year old level child (which meant very little).
1/4 of the girls were withdrawn from the troop. ''I was teaching them evil things''. Holier than thou Christian parents-----------------.

I felt they should know there was a world out there-----past their very small town. The parents wanted them insulated.

With all the different religions and cultures in the world, no it won't be practical. What we should teach children instead are good manners and respect for others.

Absolutly not. Religion should not be taught in grade school. If someone wants to learn about a particular religion, they can take theology in College.
That's already an option I believe.
