I did work at a nursing home for 5 years. It was rough work.

I did have some funny and some gross stories to tell.

I never in my life thought that old people could fight one another or swear as much as they did. I've seen old women crab about something and start swinging their purses at one another or throwing food at each other etc.

I enjoyed working with the Alzheimers. For some reason they were my 'babies' and I took extra special care of them. What was nice is that they didn't hold grudges against you if you had to give them a shower or change them. It was one of those things where if you give them 5 minutes they will forget that they were mad at you. I remember one guy thought I was his wife and I had to change him because he messed... that was weird but I was able to think on my feet quickly when he wanted to do 'something'... I said "not tonight dear, I have a headache" and he was kind and said "Ok honey"...

I was in a nursing home while undergoing physical therapy. One of the permanent residents always came by my room in her wheelchair and asked "Where am I going"? One day I was going to occupational therapy and there she was asking her usual question so I took her with me and during the session she had to go to the toilet and the other people said "well she won't be back" as she always got lost. Apart from that she was pretty savvy and real sweet.

I work in a nursing home, and people say funny things everyday. They have dementia, they are not there for our amusement but because they have to be because they can't function at home alone.
