Yes, you can and no, you don't need a "special" antenna. All HDTV broadcasts are within the UHF spectrum so, any antenna with good UHF reception will work just fine.

They are correct, you just need some type of antenna to get you local chans in HD. IF you're locals are broadcast in HD. Most places dont have HD locals yet, just big cities like L.A., New York etc.

You could definitely get broadcast HD channels (NBC, FOX, ABC, etc.) but nothing else. You need a special HD antenna to receive broadcast HD channels.
