depends on type of crab, if it can only survive in the sea and not breed on land, it is halal

Neither halal nor haram..... it is a preference among certain people. I think it goes into the grey area because it can walk out of the ocean and eat on the beach what it finds. It likes picnics in the sun.... so, it is a semi-bottom feeder.... if that is your preference

I don't know halal laws to well, but if you can't eat shellfish then you can't have crab. Jewish kosher law forbids shellfish, I know that.
