well, like unusual physical anamolies, we usually do inherit our beliefs, from the get go -- parents usually raise their kids in an environment that furthers their own standards, truths, etc. (although there are many that subscribe to "do as I say, not as I do" - but that's a whole other can of worms;) - yikes) But, once people "grow up" and discover their free will, it's up to them to determine how much their origins are going to influence their beliefs from here on out. Some people find they don't have enough personal strength to defy their parents, and others, well, they can't seem to wait to get the party started. So, I say, we inherit them, but like a reptile, we can shed them if we so choose.

It depends on the person and the type of belief. Religiously many people take up the beliefs of their parents, however, some people break out of the tradition and change their belief systems. I grew up Lutheran and changed to Pagan because I had too many questions that could not be answered by Christianity....at least not for me. My husband grew up Catholic and although he does not practice he still considers himself a Catholic.
I think many people are comfortable in their beliefs and see no reason to change from one religion to another. Others need to find their own path to Deity.
No religion is bad everyone has their own path to follow, even those in the same religion don't have the exact same beliefs.

I think that we inherit them. When a child is born they can't just come out of the womb and know everything. I guess I think that when everyone is a child, they're like sponges and they just soak in everything that is told to them. I think that beliefs and ideals originally stem from what people learn as children.

I think our parents have a lot of influence on us when we are growing up, but ultimately when we become an adult, our beliefs are our own. You wouldn't see grown adults going to Church just because they were told to do so when they were younger. If they do go, it's because it is their own personal decision. I know a muslim man who became a Christian. His entire family disowned him. That's definitely not an inherited belief.

i believe we are purely a product of environment. you can inherit beliefs inherit meaning present at birth . beliefs have to be taught or reasoned out for your self just because your parents are christian doesn't mean you have to be.

Early on we are conditioned to believe what the people around us believe. later in life your beliefs change (hopefully) with experience.

They're handed down between generations. If people were taught more to think on their own, I think things would be different. But people are taught to follow certain ideas and questioning them never comes up or is plain 'wrong', its not.

That depends if you are baptised at birth or experienced some miracles later in life and accept the religion into your heart...
Cheers!
