OK, like this:
Open main page of your Yahoo!Messenger.
Click "Messenger"
Choose option "My Contact Details"
and then write there what you want to be seen.
I think that should work.
It works for me.

on ym...go to messenger click it then go to my profile click it you will see that you are allowed to use another alias then maark is a default instead of your name....then click finished editing....

Good question. I think they messed it up during their latest upgrade so that you can't change it.
