i would rather the money was spent in making this life better .. focusing on our own world .. without spending billions looking for life elsewhere only to be covered up if they do find it ( which will happen )
i am quite happy to believe we are not alone in this universe ... but why look for it

I think it would be better - if we had those extra billions to spare - to look for another inhabitable planet with conditions similar to earth - able to support terrestial life. As a Christian I don't at all feel "threatened" by the possibility that space exploration might stumble into a planet with sentient beings. I am sure my faith can grapple with that - IF it happens.

For a certain class of people of faith, the question is fascinating. Would sapient extra-terrestials have souls? For Christians, all sorts of questions are raised about the atonement: did Jesus die for just humanity, or for everyone in the Universe?
Serious theologians avoid discussing such things. Should ETs make themselves known to us, the question then looms large for all world religions.
