AWESOME BREAD PUDDING

7 slices bread
1 cup cream or egg nog
4 eggs, well beaten
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 tablespoons butter (top with before baking)
1/4 cup sugar mixed with 1 tsp cinnamon (it's best not to use all the mixture, cover to taste.)

Sauce:

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 large can evaporated milk* **
1/2 stick butter
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

*I use 1 pint half-and-half.
**for a richer sauce use condensed milk

Pudding:

Break bread in large pieces, place in baking dish. Combine all ingredients and pour over the bread. Sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture over top.

Dot with butter and bake at 375° F for one hour or until a knife comes out clean.

This is best served warm.

Sauce:

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring until thickened.

Bread Pudding With White Bread

Yes you can - the staler the bread the better, pre-sliced or not, as long as it's not mouldy! Do cut the crusts off though. Bread pudding is just bread, buttered on both sides, layered with dried fruit (currants, raisins, sultanas, or for a different take, you could use dried apricots, or other dried fruit) in a casserole/baking dish, then with custard poured over the top, and baked slowly, so the custard soaks into the bread, and sets a bit. If you don't have pre-made or custard powder, you can make it yourself, by gently heating milk and sugar with vanilla (pods split, or essence). Remove from the heat when the sugar has melted (and take out the vanilla pods if using), add a beaten egg or two, and stir in well with a wooden spoon, and put back on a VERY low heat, stirring constantly until thickened (if you heat it too much or don't stir properly all the time, it'll become scrambled eggs, so be careful). When it's baked it should be browned on the top. It'll probably take about 30-45 minutes at around 180-200 C.

I'm not a big fan of bread pud myself, but it's one of those traditional favourites which has come back into fashion with English TV chefs. Sometimes they pour on a bit of brandy or whisky to soak into the bread before adding the custard, or add nuts with the fruit, so really you can individualise it and make it with the stuff you like!

Slightly stale bread is also good for making breadcrumbs for coating chicken/fish, especially if you jazz them up with a few herbs/ a bit of lemon zest. Then you just dip the chicken/fish in some beaten egg, then the breadcrumbs, and shallow-fry or brush with oil and bake! It's versatile stuff!

Sure. And stale bread is great for this purpose. Grease a baking dish lightly and mix well 3 C. milk, a couple ( 2 ) eggs, 1/2 C sugar, 3-5 C. ( lightly measured) torn up plain white bread or raisin bread or stale cake, cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, and a teaspoon of vanilla. Its really yummy--my "grammer" used to make it. If you use plain bread be sure to add some raisins. It bakes at about 350 degrees for about 45 min. You can pre-soak the bread or cake if you like but grammer never did. Good luck. PS Some people make it with stale cinnamon rolls, but that's awfully rich!

Non-Dessert Pudding Recipe my mother used to make with older white bread... when we were poor and she had 6 sons to feed... This was a main-dish for dinner

"Cheese Bread & Egg Dish"

8 slices of bread, lightly buttered and cubed
4-6 eggs
~ 2 cups of shredded cheese (your choice: I like mixing swiss and cheddar

I whisk the eggs, add a splash of milk, a tbsp of dry mustard.

Grease a deep baking dish, add a layer of bread cubes, a layer of cheese, a layer of bread cubes, and another layer of cheese. Pour the Eggs over the mixture and bake in a 325 oven until cheese is bubbling and browned.

Serve with a nice salad

i have not, yet I did it with leftover doughnuts once and it replaced into staggering. i do not see why you would possibly want to no longer provide it a try. perhaps you would possibly want to upload some drained, beaten pineapple. Conversely, you would possibly want to flow for a savory pudding and make it a cheddar and eco-friendly chile bread pudding (miss the sugar) and use it as a area dish. The worst element that would want to ensue is that this is no longer very solid and also you throw it out.

Almost any type of bread can be used for bread pudding. You can go to google or ask.com and type in bread pudding + recipe and come up with lots of variations.
