THat is completely sick and gross, a nine year old girl is just a child and does not want to have relations at all at that age especially with a old pervert. Any nine year old girl put in that situtation is being raped and it will screw her up mentally. Adults have a lot of power over kids and no adult should be allowed to mess with a kid.

The moment you start with "what if everybody . . ." you have what logicians call a counter-factual conditional. It is not worth your time and energy, because it is not going to happen.

People do sometimes use this tactic to argue that a thing is wrong: if everyone can't do it, then it must be wrong. Nonsense. We can't all be President, but is it wrong for one man to take the job? (Well, it may be wrong for SOME men to take the job, but we'll get a chance next time! LOL) We certainly can't all be movie actors, but should you therefore condemn Johnny Depp for being a brilliant actor?

If you want to say it is wrong for an older man to have a mere child as a wife, certainly that makes sense; go ahead and say it. But don't waste your time with counter-factual conditionals.

First, do we all understand that no culture or religion today encourages marriage to nine year olds? This question is akin to asking what will happen to this world if everyone sold their daughters into slavery.

Second, just as we would understand that the second question is a reference to a certain Biblical verse, do we all understand that this question is a reference to a certain tradition, a tradition that is not referenced in the Holy Quran, regarding the age of the Holy Prophet Muhammand's wife 'Aisha when she married.

In short, do we understand that this question attacks Islam, it attacks the Holy Prophet Muhammad, and it attacks those who follow Islam today?

I trust the writer of this question does not pretend he was simply curious about whether the marriage of very young girls who happen to be nine and he thought religion and spirituality would be a good place to ask it.

It is akin to a question often asked of Christians: Is it true God permits a man sell his daughter into sex-slavery.

Third, do we all understand that just as a Christian man would be horrified today at the idea of selling his daughter into slavery a Muslim man would be equally horrified at the idea of marrying a nine-year old?

Christians do not sell their daughters into slavery. Muslim men do not marry nine year olds. In either culture, the authorities would react with revulsion and punishment at anyone who acted in such a manner.

Fourth, do we understand that when we address issues such as the above, we deal with events that happened many, many, many years ago in a different culture and which involve the translation and understanding of long ago events?

If you want to understand why the Christian Bible speaks of a man selling his daughter into slavery, you must engage in study and you must talk to people who have dedicated their lifes to translating these ancient texts and have knowledge of the culture.

If you want to study about 'Aisha, wife of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, you must actually engage your minds and delve into studying and understanding the history and culture in which she lived.

'Aisha is a controversial figure. Sunnis understand that Aisha was a learned woman, who tirelessly recounted stories from the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad and explained Muslim history and traditions. An amazing woman, she was one of the foremost scholars of Islam's early age and is a role model for women.

But Shi'a believe that Ali should have been the first caliph, and that the other three caliphs were usurpers. Because Aisha supported Umar, Uthman, and her father Abu Bakr, as well as raised an army and fought against Ali, her step-son-in-law, the Shia believe that 'Aisha wrongly rebelled against Ali.

There is considerable controvery concerning her age. Some feel that the references to her marriage at a very early age represented an attack upon the Holy Prophet Muhammad. If you actually care about this issue and do not simply seek to slander those who follow Islam and stir up hatred and derision against them, then you might want to read some of the links listed in the below space for sources.

Note, I am not saying she was not nine. I am not saying she was nineteen. I am saying, if you really care then you must study this issue. Is that too much to ask before you attack men who follow Islam today?

Fifth, ask yourself whether this writer asks a genuine question or whether this is simply an attempt to inflame the passions of those who read it against those men who follow Islam today.

If you conclude it is the second, may I ask you one more question?

Do we really need to stir up more hatred between those of different religious faiths?

It will be good for the world. Many of these old men will have Revelations from God.

People used to ask Muhammad's favorite child bride Aisha how the Prophet lived at home. "Like an ordinary man," she answered. "He would sweep the house, stitch his own clothes, mend his own sandals; water the camels, milk the goats, help the servants at their work, and eat his meals with them; and he would go to fetch a thing we needed from the market."

Aisha (only 6 when married) believed whatever Muhammad told her about his divine inspiration. Muhammad claimed that he used to get revelations from Allah only when he slept with Aisha. Why is it that Gabriel did not bother to visit him when Muhammad spent nights with other wives in his harem?

Reference: ahadith from Sahih Bukhari: "Muhammad used to get divine inspiration only in Aisha's bed"...3.47.755

Aisha did not see Gabriel while Muhammad introduced Gabriel to her…4.54.440

Volume 4, Book 54, Number 440:

Narrated Abu Salama:

'Aisha said that the Prophet said to her "O 'Aisha' This is Gabriel and he sends his (greetings) salutations to you." 'Aisha said, "Salutations (Greetings) to him, and Allah's Mercy and Blessings be on him," and addressing the Prophet she said, "You see what I don't see."
