Wintertime is the rainy season in Hawaii, so if you're coming in January, it will be rainy. Bring an umbrella.

Yes there is,in summer, however because of the islands strategic location,in the the pacific, and mountainous features, they can receive rainfall at any time of the year, it can also be,in that time of year, December which would be classified by you as abnormal, but not to the locals.
Example;sometimes the northeast trade winds may fail, and their is a south to southwest bearing wind which replaces it,which brings muggy weather to the islands.and remember they are in the tropics so brief to heavy showers must be anticipated at times.alot of thing can cause this to happen, eg;all the islands experience relief rainfall,(process by which wind with lot of moister rises against an elevated area, cools and fall as rain)this conditions occurs on the mountain slopes of the big island, and a couple others.so keep in touch with the local weather service to see whats happening in the neck of those woods, good luck.

I went in a December. They were supposed to have 8cm rainfall or something like that, for December. Well I think it all arrived on the Saturday morning. The rest of the week was fine.

When I was there it rained every day. But not the type of rain that ruins your day, it was more like a mist that just helped you cool over and made everything even more beautiful. I was only on Oahu though.

Have a great time!

They are migratory birds, they live where you are in the rainy season and move someplace else when it is dry

There is.
Most Brits think that means constant rain. Not the case, so don't worry.
