You need to continue to press your doctor on this issue. The manic phase can be very dangerous. You only mention the antidepressant Zyprexa. It may be that you need a mood stabilizer in addition to the antidepressant. Ask your doctor about it.

I am bipolar and have had a great deal of success with Seroquel and Paxil. I have had little or no mania with my bipolar. I certainly had extremely sudden shifts in mood just not to the euphoric or happy end of the spectrum.

On October 4, 2006 I had open heart surgery. My heart sergeon stopped the Paxil and replaced it with Wellbutrin. The reason is that I was a 2 pack/day smoker and Wellbutrin (also known as Zyban) helps to curb the craivings and withdrawl symptoms as you quit smoking.

However, the Wellbutrin does not seem to work on my bipolar as well as the Paxil did. When I have been smoke-free for a couple of months I plan to ask about going back to the Paxil.

There are many options in medications for people with bipolar. Keep after your doctor, keep asking questions and keep the doctor well informed of continuing or new symptoms. Eventually you will find a medicine or combination that will work for you.

I have a website (Our Bipolar World) I am building. It is far from complete but has some helpful information. There is a list of drugs. I have not yet completed all the links for information on them. I suggest that you go to a site called WebMD and search the name of a drug you wish to learn more about . I am providing a link to both my website and WebMD's drug information pages. The MedlinePlus also proides information on drugs, a link is shown for that site as well.

Sincerely,
Terry

I would definitely talk to your psychiatrist. As I have recently learned, there are many drugs out there that can help bipolar disorder. If your psychiatrsit isn't willing to explore these meds with you, I'd get a new psychiatrist. You may also want to visit bipolarworld chat room for emotional support during this difficult time. I hope you get to feeling better soon. It is possible...so keep moving forward.

You should call your doc as soon as you can. 60 mg of zyprexa is an awful lot. There are many medications, new and old, that can help. It is just a matter of finding the right combination for you. Sometimes it is a bit of trial and error so it may take some time. Hang in there.

****, if 60mg of zyprexa isn't cutting it, you need to see a shrink fast. There are plenty of other atypical antipsychotics out there. It may even be worth trying some of the old school typicals like Thorazine

I take 50mg Naltrexone and I've noticed these past 2 weeks that i've been taking this, that my mood is more stable, I still have my manic moments, but nothing like before. Where are you at, what state, if you are here in the dallas area, you can get this for free right now.

Go back and talk to your doctors. Mixing pills can be very dangerous. You need a meds adjustment done by your support team. Don't let your manic cycle fool you on this. You can get yourself in to see them. Just do it right now and get yourself the support you deserve.

Don't mix meds on your own! That thinking is the mania hijacking your common sense!! You know this, right?

Call your pdoc - they take phone calls - and tell what's going on. If s/he doesn't work with you on finding more effective medication, then find a new pdoc.
