I know brown rice is best, but it tastes like a cardboard box to me. Not that I've bitten on a cardboard box, but I can only imagine. White rice tastes much better. Anyway, if I prepare a chicken fillet with a hint of sweet and sour sauce, would that still be healthy? I know white rice carries a lot of carbs, but if I ate a half a cup, is that going to affect my diet? I also exercise too by the way...Thanks!

Try sauteing the veggies in olive oil instead of butter; much healthier. Also, try a little less salt, a tablespoon seems like an awful lot to me. You could also cook your rice in low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth instead of water (which I've been doing) for added flavor, and leave the salt out or reduce even further. For an even healthier take on the rice, switch to brown rice. Grill your boneless skinless chicken breast. Cook rice as directed on package. Saute chopped onion, bell pepper and minced garlic in olive oil. Defrost some frozen peas and carrots and add to rice mixture just before done. Also add onion mixture at this time. Cut chicken into bite-size pieces and combine with rice mixture. Enjoy! You could also mix in a can of cream of chicken or celery soup when everything is mixed together and put into a casserole dish in the oven for a bit to heat through.

White rice is pretty bad for you. Refined foods in general are bad for you but refined carbs in particular. The more refined they are the worse they are. Your body is not designed to digest these things so when it does, it does so in an abnormal way. This causes several specific effects that result in everything from weight gain to diabetes and heart attack, depending on how strong your body is and how badly you indulge in these foods. One insidious effect of refined carbs like white rice is that, by spiking insulin, they cause you to feel hungry even though you are full......to the point of binging. This is especially a problem since they digest so fast. Not only is your stomach empty 10 minutes later, but the insulin spike is sending you out in search of more food. Since it also gives you a high, there is a tendency to binge on other similar foods. Bad news.

Grains in general are not a good choice for your diet. As you described, the whole grains taste like **** and refined ones are very bad for you. One thing people seem not to realize is that grain is used to fatten up cattle. Do you think it has a different effect on you, when you eat it? Low in nutrients, high in calories, taste terrible. Why the hell eat this, except for the drug like high you get from eating the ultra-refined stuff? Indeed, almost nobody eats whole grains.

The solution is quite simple and should be obvious. Don't eat grains. No corn, rice, wheat whatever. Don't eat pastas, breads or whatever. Replace these items in your diet with vegetables. In general, that is what a healthy diet consists of....as many vegetables as possible, some fruit, lean cuts of meat (eggs but limit the number of egg yolks), only drink water. That will cause a dramatic amount of weight loss. Also, after a couple of months of eating that way, those refined foods and grains will seem gross. This is important to understand. Eating those bad foods is alot like cigarette smoking. Disgusting unless you are addicted, then hard to break the habit due to a drug like high. Spend time away from it though and you wonder what the hell you were thinking eating that crap.

White rice is still a grain and grains are healthy. Its just that brown rice is a whole grain which is more healthy. Two tablespoons of sweet and sour sauce has around 60 calories and 13 grams of sugar. Compared to other sauces, sweet and sour sauce is low in calories. Also there is no fat in sweet and sour sauce. So I would say it is a healthy way to flavor chicken.

~~~Minute Rice is basiclly stripped of every nutrient,,,its bleached its bland. I would probably choose a "real" whole grain white rice,,,it may be harder to cook,,,,do you have a rice steamer,,that would help.....Any time you buy a 'grain' it is best to buy 'whole' grain,,,,,healthier for you,,,,,,by the way,,,,rice and chicken,,,rice and fish,,,,yummy,,,,,what could be bettter!!
