Each airline has its own restrictions but its the hand luggage that you take on board that is usually universally the same on all flights around 5kilos. If you have luggage that is over your limit it depends on the airline as most will charge you, but many times a smile and being very curteous, helps with getting away with the surcharge.

I think everyone is right, about 20kg. And you should contact your airline's website or call to find out for sure. I will say it depends on your destination and the type of trip and timing of the trip. If you are going to Europe this winter, it is understandable you would want to know how much you can carry, coats etc. If you are going to Southern Asia, you should not worry since it is warm. If you are going to Northern Asia then you have the same concerns as in Europe. If you are planning on traveling in the summer then pack light anyway. If you are taking a tour you would want to pack lighter and smarter since you will be moving bags all the time. If you are staying in one place or one hotel then, your concern about weight is understandable. Pick mix and match clothes. Dark colored pants or slacks go with most anything. If you wear black pants or slacks then you really only need one pair of shoes for dress. Daytime keep your slacks neutral toned or dark. Minimizes the different shoes and socks or hose. And what you forget you could buy at your destination. If you are taking something with you, consider having it shipped ahead and picked up when you arrive. Also, consider your age, when I was in my 20's I did not mind lugging a big heavy bag, now that I am 52, I try to make the bag manageable. Lastly consider your time there. Can you wash somethings there or have the hotel laundry do it? Are there clothes you take that you don't mind throwing away? There are many factors than just weight.
Oh yeah, hand luggage also contact your airlines and see what they allow. I notice most passengers to asia if they carry on it's the only thing they take on beside one bag. They do it to speed loading and their unloading but, don't be like most Americans and try to take everything, take what you need and the rest should be in your bags that you check in. Follow the KISS principle, Keep It Simple Silly.
Good luck and have a good trip.

If in doubt, assume 20kg for hold luggage and 5kg for hand baggage. However, the weight does depend on airline, route and class your flying but the wight should be somewhere on your ticket or info provided with your ticket. If you can't find it, speak to your travel agent or airline.

It may depend on the carrier that you are flying with.
It might say it on your ticket or booking confirmation.
Otherwise check with them or their website.
