We had a large 130 pound, male, rottie. Since we wanted a mascluine, strong name, his name was Magnus. Named after the strongest man in the world at the time.
We now have a female French Mastiff. She's 80 pounds, and 8 months and her name is Olive. (Sounds like "I love." Since I think this breed is wonderful.) We're getting another one, but male in the Spring, and since they are also large, powerful dogs, his name is going to be Ford. (built Ford tough! lol)
I also like the name Captain and Magnum for large dog names.

Dogs have a way of naming themselves. Make a good long list of the suggestions you like, and see which one the puppy likes!

How about Reuben? He was kind of named because Ruben was on American Idol. Both of them are brown and they both sing.
We had one dog named Oscar because when he was a puppy he was a grouch.
My wife named her first dog Boozer because he sampled some body's mixed drink at Christmas when she first got him.
I've also known dogs with these uncommon names; Hans, Toby, Archie, and Shadow

As long as the name is not a rude word and matches the dog. It makes sense to me. It also depends on your thougths.
