my dog is really stiff in the back legs when hes been laying down, hes walking fine but doesn;t seem to want to go down the steps on the deck, are there any supplements I can give him, hes 9 years old, norwegian elkhound

yes i have had the vet over to see him, she said keep an eye on him and if hes still having problems in a few weeks then we have to get xrays, so thought I would try some supplements to help him

Do you take the dog to the vet? What does the vet say about that? Next, Prescribed by a vet for my former dog, Gluscosamine Chondroitin, just like for humans, is good for bones & joints. My former dog lived to b 19 yrs old. Good Luck!

It could be arthritis, in which case giving an aspirin every day helps, as we were told to do by our vet, but DONT do this unless you check with your vet first because for different breeds you may only need to give half of an aspirin. Cod liver oil in your dogs food could also alleviate the symptoms a little. Check with your vet though just to rule out any other possible causes.

You need to get the dog vet checked as soon as possible espceialy at his age. Try to keep him as still as possible until you can get him to the vet, larger breed dogs are prone to hip problems as they age. Your vet will be able to treat this problem or at least ease the pain.

It's possible that your dog is developing arthritis or hip dysplasia. A trip to the vet will let you know for sure.

My guess would be arthritis and you can give them glucosimine and condroitin ask the vet how many miligrams of the combination (it does come in a pill together) to give him. You can buy it at Walmart.

Glucosamine can be found at pet stores and is good for arthritis.
