Because the babies or Squabs are the same size as adults and its only close inspection of the feathers that reveals their age

I have seen baby pigeons! My friend had a pigeon nest perched behind her sky dish and it had baby pigeons in it, but they seemed to stay in there until they were huge! I think they don't leave the nest until they are fully grown.

The squabs (young pigeons) are being given a milk substance by both parents, the squabs are adult looking before they leave the nest and fly, so the young look like adults by the time we see them.

I've noticed that baby doves are never to be seen, either. I guess they stay in the nest till they are more or less fully grown

we do , but by the time they come out of the nest they are bigger or the same size as adult pigeons .

They live in nests until they are adult sized. Sometimes you will see an adolescent one (you can tell by the feathers).
