Where does the idea or notion come from? Perhaps from Adam and Eve, from God communing with them in the Garden in the evening.

the existence of a soul?
And the Lord God breathed into Adam the breath of life, and Adam became a living soul

The first mention was in Genesis and a tablet called Elumina Elish. This was a tablet from Ur in Abrahams time around 4000 years ago. This is the earliest mention of God but this probably derived from earlier texts of Genesis that probably Adam and his descendants wrote.

It comes from my soul. As my faith has not faltered since youth and the first time I learned about God. I just knew & know He exists. I don't know the first, but He is more like a spirit.

You'd probably be looking at the Sumerians, Babylonians, or Egyptians--the first cultures with writing, and also highly religious cultures.

As for where the idea itself comes from--I tend to subcribe to the theories of Ludwig Feuerbach. I'd check him out, very interesting stuff.

It comes from within.

It is a personal experience that is passed from those who have it to those who can't see it quite yet.

It existed before history was written and it will exist long after history is just a memory.

I would think from the beginning of time we were born with a hole in our soul and we desire to be complete. The only way to fill that hole is with a relationship with out creator. That's what Jesus was talking about when he said that he had "Living Water".

May GOD richly bless you

Originaly they were refered to as Din.gir, Ilu, Neteru, Nefilim, Watchers, Loftyones, shinning ones etc.
They first appeared back in the days of Mesopotania and sumeria.
What we call "gods" were not considered that way. They were more so as a pet would veiw its owner. Your Dog doesnt think you are a God.

The idea of Divinity was a later Pagan invention.

It was placed in man the desire to know his maker.
As to the existance of soul, that is in the bible as the description of man. He is a soul. The active force we call life is the spirit that keeps man motivated, when dead, belonging to God, it returns to him.

The first sign a species is becoming sentient is when they have evolved to the point where they can abstract enough to invent a god. The first sign a species is achieving sentient maturity is when they get rid of their gods.
