I have just spent four hours trying to sort it, i am now brain dead starving hungery and fed up

They are trained to obfuscate and inveigle. I think a lot of those things should come with a really well written guide book in clear basic English rather than a manual of technical gibberish you basically need a Rosetta Stone to decipher.

Ring the store where you got it and tell them you are having problems. Or call in a TV repair man he should be able to do it. I would try first option initially.
