I have seen a lot of kids do this LOL It is so funny, but tragically silly at the same time.
He's most likely doing it because of either a response he gets when he does it or feeling he needs more attention from 'the parental unit'
I am going to go out on a limb here and say he will probably stop if he hurts himself or gets the attention he may feel he needs.
Good luck, and try not to laugh too hard!

My son does this. As a matter of fact, he runs into everything for fun. He's not necessarily hyperactive, but when he's excited or going wild, he runs into things. People, walls, furniture, etc. He's almost six and he still does this, although we've had to teach him that running into people is unacceptable. Enjoy the show, he'll be grown up too soon!

Hmmm - I'd find it strange too. I'm assuming you have tried to get him to stop. There was one time I was playing with my 4yr old nephew and he 'forgot' to stop running and ran smack into the wall. He didnt find it funny at all, he started crying! I gave him a big hug and he was more careful the next time he was running down the hall. Perhaps suggest to your son if he would like to continue you're going to make him wear a helmet so he doesnt hurt himself while he's being silly like that.

Hi, my name is Susan. I majored in Psychology at Marshall University, and took a class in childhood development. Your son may be copying someone's behavior, or if in doubt, you may want to have him checked by a doctor for any neurological problems if he's never behaved in this fashion before.

Lots of kids do it. Somebody thought it was funny and now he wants that attention again. He'll stop when he really hurts himself. Obviously he he's not hurting enough to stop yet.
