How a visitor will go back to his/her country when flight is cancelled for ever?

My friend travelled from India to Nigeria on tourist visa having a return air tkt from BELLVIEW AIRLINES. The airlines has terminated their services before the due date of return of my friend. Travel agent in Nigeria says as the refund will be given from the place of tkt booking (India) only. As per travel agent (in India), refund against tkt is possible only when the tkt is presented in India personally. how my friend can go back to india? he has no money to get another ticket. pl. suggest.

If your friend has absolutely no other resources, then your friend should contact the Indian High Commission in Nigeria.

Make sure that this information is confirmed. He needs to ask them to send him a signed fax (not an email) in which they confirm the refund. Figure out where to receive a fax in Nigeria (public telecom center, or a friend's office).

When he's got the fax, he can take the risk of buying a new ticket to India and claim the refund of the original ticket.

Money wise? A relative or friend could cable some money to help him out, perhaps?

Your friend needs to visit the main offices of Belleview which is (basically) a Nigerian company. I would mention that the system in Lagos, however, is not so much bent as totally twisted - visiting Nigerian travel agents is a waste of time. That said, of all things Nigerian, Belleview (or Bellevue) is quite an efficient outfit and as reliable as things can be in that neck of the woods. If they cannot take your friend back to India then the head office should come up with some cash. As suggested, it would not do any harm to call the Indian High Commission if only to lend a little "weight" to your friends' problem. Bellevue being a Nigerian outfit, trying to get money back once back in India - from the place where the ticket was first purchased from - should be considered a last resort.

Ask the agency to issue another ticket in lieu of the one he's holding. They know he has the ticket, they issued it.

Otherwise, post the ticket back to a family member and have them go to the travel agent with it.

Hope he's got travel insurance.....if so, they should be able to cover the cost of an alternative flight. If he doesn't have travel insurance then he's just learned an expensive lesson in world travel.

Have him contact the Indian consulate, and take their advice.

He can make a copy of the ticket and mail the ticket to you can run a copy and give the original to the agent, make sure agent gives you the receipt also.

He can also take the ticket to other air line and see if they will help. Some air line may Honor it as good will.
