My daughter went to pre school at age 3 for 5 1/2 days a week. she was an only child and she also had no cousins or other family members the same age.so it did her the world of good to be around other children of her age. It allowed her to develop social skills and also got her ready for full time education. She is now 15 and has just sat some of her standard grade exams a year early. So i can only say she benefited. If you get the chance let them go to pre school at 4 better at 3 though.

I feel it is much too young. In most of europe the starting age is 6 or 7 in england we seem to feel that the younger the better. We sent our son this year at age 4 but he didn't like it. We have now decided to educate him at home. As far as socialisation is concerned we all live in a community and as long as we involve our children in what we do they develop very good social skills, better than being at school where they only mix with their own age group and only the most dominant children survive unscathed.

I think it is excellent. Children learn their social skills by mixing with other children - staying at home with Mum doesn't help much - they just learn to cling to Mum.
I took my children to pre-school as soon as they were able to go and they learnt to socialise really quickly - and the school was really good - used up loads of the kids energy!
Education is the only way forward! Social Sciences are as much a part of education as Maths & English. Hopefully this generation will actually also learn how to go to work and keep a job down!

my daughter started pre-school at 3 and she really enjoyed it. I think mostly because she had a chance to be around other kids, she is an only child and has no kids around her to play with, so this was good for her in that way. Also she advanced a lot and now she is 6 years old in 1s grade and knows how to read an write and do math at a high level, I think because she started school early had a lot to do with it. I think as long as only a couple of hours (my daughter went for 4 hours a day) then its ok.

i dont believe it is too early for children to go to school.
this generation of children are more frequently placed in creches shortly after birth, 4 months old. therefore by the age of 4 years of age, they are already well used to the formal education, however by sending the children to a school at this age, they are then educated to a much higher standard by teachers who have degrees in such.
i work in a creche and while i do have a degree in childcare studies, there are only 10 others in the country, that is to say people who work in other non-statuatory child care setting often have little of no qualifications to do so.
from my experience children crave consistency and education and adjust well to school life and in the majority of cases love every moment of it

Education, like all other government regimes is designed for what politicians and their advisors believes is the average child. Now any sensible mind can figure out that 'average' means nothing so that which politics designed for everyone, in the end, fits no-one.
Averages: The average human has less than two legs. So Ms or Mr average (the real one) has to take what he is given and then become adept at adopting and adapting.

Too much. Better sending them to pre-school for 1- 2 days per week and gradually increase the days so they will be used to a school routine by the time they are ready for school.

I stated at 3 and loved it- I cried at the end of my first day as I didn't want to go home!
My nephew is 4 and just started school and he is the same- he adores it! I asked him what the worst thing about school was and he said "Not going to school"!!

The sooner the better, even if it's only pre-school. I did, & it did me no harm at all. Most teenagers skive off or don't go to school at all, so the earlier they CAN start learning, the better. Bear in mind that they're learning while at home, too.
