A Christian is forbidden to go to war, for any reason:
Math Ch 5 Vs 38-48
Math Ch 5 Vs 9
So called Christians will pick and choose what they want to believe. For example, someone will say they are pro-life , but will believe in Capital Punishment. Christians come under the new covenent, hence "an eye for an eye"does not apply to them. Jesus forgave the woman that was to be stoned, saying" let he who is without sin, cast the first stone." So who is free of sin that they can act as executioner. The thing to remember is that being a TRUE Christian is very difficult. If some one wants to believe in war, Capital Punishment, abortion, that's fine, just do not pretend to be a Christian. " The Lord will not be mocked" I'm an atheist, but I do not believe in war, death penalty, and unnecessary abortions.

I think Christians views on war range with each denomination but I'd say that most denominations are a little too much "turn the other cheek" and emphasise that.
My view(I am Christian) is that as the last book of the bible tells us, war will be present before the Lord comes and so let it be. Take heart in Matthew 10:34(the whole of chapter 10 is appropriate).

Here's a good reference:
http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art5.htm
Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others. The defense of the common good requires that an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm. For this reason, those who legitimately hold authority also have the right to use arms to repel aggressors against the civil community entrusted to their responsibility.
If, however, non-lethal means are sufficient to defend and protect people's safety from the aggressor, authority will limit itself to such means, as these are more in keeping with the concrete conditions of the common good and more in conformity with the dignity of the human person.

I think there can be no Christian view on war. In a dichotomy of love or violence the New Testament is very adament on prohibiting this kind of conduct. Who would Jesus bomb, attack, invade and occupy ?

They are FOR Peace. but the priests are blessing the arms "which will kill and Punish" the enemy.
Examples from History?
Crusaders, Spaniards in South America and many other places.
The worst atrocities took place in the Name of Jesus.
The 5th Command has no meaning.
"THY SHALL NOT KILL"
