The "sit and stand" stroller is GREAT for that age spread.

At 4, your daughter is still going to get tired at times and want to jump on the stroller, but she'll probably want to walk a lot as well. It would be silly to lug around a big double stroller so she could jump in and out. The sit and stand looks like a single stroller, but has a spot on the back for the older child to "hitch a ride" and stand or even sit on the back little platform. Trust me---even when they are 6 or so they still get tired! LOL
By the way, the "buggy board" that another person suggested is like the platform on back that you attach to a regular stroller..... we had one and it's a pain. You have to attach it each time you want to use it and can't fold the stroller up with it attached.

No! I did it once, never again. They are big bulky and get in everybodies way causing stress all round. With the size gap between the two ages the stroller would be uneven and even harder to manage. The strollers with one seat behind the other are just as bad, very difficult to get up and down any sort of steps (even one). I would use a buggy board for the four year old (you can often find them on E-Bay) It gives them a lot more flexibility and I found it encourages walking. If you really feel for safety reasons you need the four year old strapped in, consider two single strollers if there is another adult with you, or a child harness, which would work well with a buggy board. If your travelling by plane a double buggy would be a logistical nightmere at an airport, think travellators, metal detectors, Nooo!!

If I was only going a short way no.. allow the 4 yr old to help push the stroller and you know exactly where they are for safety..

If going to an amusement park or somewhere with alot of walking a double stroller would be nice the 4 yr old can sit and rest and it will cut down on the "I am tired" fussing...

Most ammusment parks, malls, and other highly walking intensive places have stroller rentals now, for a few dollars you rent a stroller for the day... (Last December it cost $5.00 for the entire day for a double stroller in Disneyland, the stroller was in great condition with oversized wheels making it easy to push over the various surfaces in the park.)

I have twins, and although I have completely different age issues, I can say that a double stroller, side by side, will fit anywhere a wheelchair has access to, which these days in America means just about anywhere.

Before I read the answers I thought you meant 4 months and 18 months, not 4 yrs and 18 months. If you have a 4 yr old, I definately would not get a double stroller both for sitting. Your 4 yr. old will go crazy. If you have a 4 month old and 18 month old, definately get a double stroller. You'd use it more than just for travelling. I would also suggest an Ergo baby carrier. It's awesome and useful up to 3yrs or when your back give out.

I love that sit and stand stroller. I'm going to remember that one!

Double strollers are big even when folded. Try a wrist strap to keep hold of your 4 year old or buy a buggy board that attaches to the back of a stroller that the 4 year old can stand on.
Happy travels.

I would buy a sit and stand double stroller. That is what I have. My daughter who is 5 still uses the sit and stand part when we are out for long periods of time and it works well.

i think that would be a very good thing to do, but use the stroller as a threat to the 4 year old "If you can't behave and stay by Mommy you will go to the stroller" or just make it available to the 4yo, "if you get tired you can sit in the stroller" make it their choice.

thats the best given the ages of your kids better safe than sorry atleast in the stroller you know they are safe just as long as the older one doesnt keep on reaching out to the younger sibbling and tries to play aroundwith her as this may cause difficulties in manouvering the stroller
