Is it a percentage, like when tipping a waiter?
Also what if I have really long hair, should I tip more? When I say long, I mean long..... think hula girl on a Hawaii postcard...... that long. I'm getting my hair done mostly down with waves/large curls and just a little hair pulled up in a hair clip, kind of like Jessica Simpson on her wedding day, but with much longer hair. Anyway, thanks for the help!

You should tip them as much as you think their worth but it doesn't always work that way. You should definetley tip more for longer hair cuz it takes longer to do. I remember this one time I cut this girls hair that was all the way past her butt , she was very picky and talked about how nobody ever does her hair the way she wants them to and is never satisfied. I gave her awesome layers and styled it! She gushed on how much she loved it and how I'm the only person she's going to from now on ect and I don't even think she tipped me a dollar!!! I mean damn I know a lot of people don't have much money but it was only a $12 haircut! Thank god I left that salon b4 she came back. Lol But anyways you should at least tip her $5 because of the length but if she does a good job you should give her more like $10. But I also don't know how expensive the salon is, the one I worked in the prices were cheaper, the more you pay for something the more they expect in tips, not like that means you have to. But there isn't really a rule of thumb for tipping stylists, to help you in the future I'll tell you the norm for a regular stylist, tip more if they are really good. But also remember long hair is a factor so give a dollar or two more.
Haircut-$3-4 {with styling $5-6}
Perm or color-$5-7
Up-do or down-do-$5-8{depending on how intricate}
Wax-$2-3
Well I hope this helps hun, I hope your hair comes out great!

If they tip at all,most people tip in the range of 10-15% of what the total bill is. However this is a personal decision. If the hairdresser does a fantastictic job on you, you may tip more , if you want.

Since I usually get a cut, color and highlights, I will tip 20% for the amount of time my hairdresser takes....
