You can purchase canvas that has a special coating that accepts printing inks. One is intended for use with desktop inkjet printers, and can be purchased at Staples or another stationer. The commercial product is for the giclee process.

Regular canvas doesn't work in the inkjet - I've tried it and the ink doesn't penetrate the same way.

However I've had canvas prints made professionally and they're beautiful. They must be varnished before they are stretched for framing or the ink rubs off on your hands and work surface - thus could never be cleaned.

yes there is a technique using acetate photo copies that can be etched onto canvas, or any material. i only know of one supplier in the UK but i suspect there will be others, the technique was developed at Hallam uni in Sheffield, THEY USED IT TO REPAIR AND RENOVATE THE THEATRE CURTAINS IN MILAN. lf
