Butter, your body can digest it better.
Margarine, you can get some plastic stuff thats reduced fat spread I suppose.
Best thing if your fat is to change your whole diet , including reducing sugar. Its simple, if you want to lose weight you gotta, eat fresh fruit and vegies, not eat fried or sugary foods, dont eat as much and exercise.

BUTTER VERSES MARGARINE DID YOU KNOW... The difference between margarine and butter? Both have the same amount of calories Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams. Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter according to a recent Harvard Medical Study Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods Butter has many nutrional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added! Butter tastes much better then margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods. Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less then 100 years Now for Margarine... very high in Trans Fatty Acids Triple risk of Coronary Heart Disease Increases total and LDL ( this is the bad cholesterol) Lowers HDL cholesterol * and this is the good one Increases the risk of cancers by up to five fold. Lowers quality of breast milk. Decreases immune response. Decreases insulin response. And here is the most disturbing fact.... Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE from being PLASTIC... ( this fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated , this means hydrogen is added changing the molecular structure of the food ) YOU can try this yourself, purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area, within a couple of days you will note a couple of things, no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it,( that should tell you something) it does not rot, smell differently...Because it has no nutritional value, nothing will grow on it, even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow...Why? because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your tupperware and spread that on your toast? Yuck!

Butter is higher in fat, but margarine has trans fats which block your arteries. I don't use either, unless I'm having bread and butter (occasionally!). For sandwiches, I use light soft cheese and a scraping of wholegrain mustard, or Hellmans extra light mayo which is only 6% fat-both delicious with wafer thin ham, which is also low in fat. Get some advice before starting your diet to make sure you are still eating properly. I went to a slimming class-it's more fun than slimming alone, and you'll make new friends. Good luck! :)

I am a firm believer of "everything in moderation" but at the same time you have to watch what you put inside yourself.

It is far better to eat natural things - butter as opposed to margarine - because the liver can break down natural and unrefined matter and the body can use it.

But with processed foods the structure is so alien to the liver that it does not know what to do with it so it just stores it as fat.

My advice: Don't eat processed foods, the advertisers are only making money from pushing junk into your body.

Polyunsaturated margerine. Butter is saturated (animal) fat and the stuff that clogs up your arteries!
Go easy on it though. 1 teaspoon is one portion and you should not have more than 3 portions a day.
To those who say butter, I say "Rubbish". It has been proved beyond doubt that butter causes more damage to the arteries than a good quality margerine (which does NOT contains Trans fats!). By good quality I mean a branded marg based on olive oils, which are the best fats for your body as they lower the bad choesterol and raise the good cholesterol!
Natural is NOT synonomous with good for you...just look at all the posions you can find in nature!!!

BUTTER! Your body knows how to breakdown and metabolize butter. Margarine is not better for you and your body does not know how to break it down. Use unsalted butter in moderation and you will be good to go!

well if you are on a diet then you should not be eating either of these foods, i would suggest cutting that out straight away..... if you want you should really use an oil, such as sunflower, pumkin, or olive oil, but honestly if you want to lose wieght cut that stuff out NOW> I would also recommend that you stop eating any sugar, so no more sugar in tea, coffee on your cereal... also try to cook more for yourself, make sandwiches for work or school, and that way you will know exactly what you are eating... you need to combine a good diet with lots of excersice so try to walk everywhere, instead of taking the bus or the train, if work is only 30 minutes walking, then walk, and that way you also save money.
good luck, and just to let you know I just lost like one stone, in three months,,,,, by doing all this.....

As margarine is a mixture of all sorts of odds and sods I think it's reasonable to assume that butter is better (Hey - that's a good slogan to use!!!) - so long as you don't overdo it, but unless you eat two loaves of bread/toast and butter a day and fry absolutely everything in butter as well, I doubt if you'll REALLY come to much harm - and let's face it, eating marg is like eating soft shite - so I'm told!!!
