Evolution is alterations in a species to adapt to the ever changing habitat. Some species become extinct because their habitats change to rapidly. Earth is always changing and the animals have to adapt or die. Adapting changes an animal and in time (millions of years) a new species will emerge.

p.s. that doesn’t mean a modern monkey can “evolve” into a human for they are a different branch of the evolutionary tree.

Adaptation is basically evolution.

Adaptation just refers to something adjusting to its circumstances. It implies that the environment causes the specimen to make a change. It also implies that an animal could make this change within itself. Evolution may occur through adaptive mechanisms or otherwise. A genetic mutation would be one way a species evolves which could not be classified as adaptation. Additionally, evolution implies an effect on the gene pool, something not mentioned in adaptation.

Well, see the thing is that not always do species adapt to the environment. They may already be adapted to it and obtain skills to better use it. Evolution also explains that some species perish. Nevertheless, saying adaptation through generation IS part of evolution. They just don't want to admit that.

It's like watching water dip into a glass in a sink and thinking "That's just a tiny little dip, it could never fill up the glass". Yes, it will fill up the glass, then the sink, then spill onto the floor given enough time. Some people seem to think that small changes can't add up to look like a big change. This is poor logic, and boggles my mind every time.

It's the same thing....really, someone who sees them as two different things probably doesn't understand what evolution is.
