We rescued her from her owner abandoning her 2 weeks ago. By the looks of her, she's about 6-7 months old. We have given her food, shelter and played with her constantly-but it seems like she gets really lonely when we aren't home, because when we come in the house, she won't leave us alone, she meows constantly, and follows us between our legs all over the house. We are really afraid we might step on her because of how closely she follows us. She doesn't even want to sleep alone.

She seems afraid to step out and discover stuff on her own, which I think is kind of abnormal for a playful kitten. When do you think this behavior will stop?

What can we do to assure her we're not going to abandon her? I have even resorted to leaving the TV on for her when we're not at home. Is this ridiculous?

U guys have hit the nail on the head regarding getting a another kitten-my husband suggested that last night, but I was afraid how Aalliyah(kitten's name) would react to that, being that she's just getting over being abandoned. Survey definently says get her a playmate, though! LOL!

Dont worry, she is still a kitten, she will grow out of most of these traits. As regards to Him going out, she will eventually do this some Kittens can take up to a year before they are ready to leave the house. But eventally instinct will drive it out the house,,,, if u have a garden, then try to lead it into the garden, to show there is nothing to be afraid of, from the outside, world

Bless your heart.Just keep giving kitty plenty of love and she'll grow more independent. Not all cats are adventurous.Be sure she has toys she can play with and maybe a window she can look out of to occupy her when you're gone.If the TV helps it's not silly. If you feel up to it another cat might help-same age opposite sex is usually best.Best of luck to you very decent folks and your lucky kitty!

No it is not ridiculous to leave the TV on for a pet cat. I have done the same for my dogs! Whatever makes them happy is what you do! When it comes to a cat they own you more then you own them! Sometimes I think it is the same for some dogs to! Play with your cat and get her some toys to play with. A cat will like the catnip mice or balls to roll around. Just give her lots of love and I bet one day she will forget about being abandoned. It seems like you really care for her-and she knows it. Just keep on loving her! I have a cat that picked me for his pet! When he was a little kitten I picked him up and said"you little clinger you". He kept hanging on to me! So I said" I guess I will just have to take you home then you little clinger". The man who had him just laughed-another person said;" yes he is Colonel Clinger(like on TV). " So that is his Name -Colonel Clinger! Odd that your cat clinges on so to you-must be because she loves and trust you!

When I read the first part of your question, I thought I had the answer but it looks like you already have the answer. Your kitten needs a friend to play with. We had the same problem but we have sort of gone overboard with it. We now have 6 friends for the kitten to play with...take my word for it...one friend is plenty!

You could get her a friend another kitten dog, etc. or a pet tortise. this will occupy her. Give her time.

Feel fortunat to witness the Power of Love. If I were to come back as a cat I would like to be in your care.

Trust me on this one, you won't step on her. She is faster than you think. You might trip over her, and that would be my concern. My cat was like this when I first got her. Like one person suggested, leave the TV on. Worked for mine. Also, if you do step on her tail, don't worry. This will only teach her that she needs to stay away from your feet.

The kitten is just staying close to the person that its farmiliar with. When the cat gets a little older it will become more independant

the playmate suggestion is good. I think enjoy these affectionate times while you can, the terrible teens will make her more alloof and 'cat-like'

You might want to consider getting a second cat, to keep her company.

My cats are all pretty clingy. If they keep walking in front of me, I pick them up and carry them, or drape them over my shoulder.

Some might not agree, but I allow my cats to sleep on my bed. They lay on me, or against me, or near me.
