A Border collie should not tire of showing, as long as his coat is maintained well, so it isn't a big stress of grooming from the ground up each time..He will let you know if he is losing enthusiasm...If he acts reluctant, then it is time for a rest..
the most stess is suffered if the travel is long..but he will let you know when he is reluctant to load up...
somehow, I doubt that a border collie ever gets tired! My uncle was a proffesional trainer of border collies, and they would put in 12 hour days of herding, and still have energy..lol
Just a tip...Keep it fun, and stay relaxed..don't allow others to spoil the day for you..KNOW that you have as much right there as any professional, and don't linger at the back of the pack, out of some sense of respect or intimidation..The way that YOU feel, goes directly down the leash to your dog..He will have fun if you do..
take unsalted chicken broth in case your dog isn't drinking, and to give him a boost if you go to group..take you own home water or bottled water for him...don't let him sniff the poo or pee of the other dogs...ever

Showing dogs is alot of work for both the handler and the dog. If your dog comes from a reputable breeder who specifically breeds for show then the shaping of this dogs show future starts as soon as it is old enough to stand. Training for the show ring takes a very long time. Some dogs decide that they do not care for showing at all while others love it. Just like people no two are exactly alike.
There are many dogs who successfully show every weekend and look forward to it each and every time. There are other dogs who hate showing every weekend but they do it anyway, and of course there are your other dogs that just plain hate it and will let you know they hate it.
Border Collies are very intelligent dogs and they need to be kept busy and know that they have a "job" at all times. This dogs "job" could be the show ring and he or she could excel at that. This dog might decide that showing is not what it wants to do for a "job" nonetheless you can show as long as the dog shows for you that is your choice.
I currently have 2 dogs. My first "show prospect" who is now 2 years old. She is a boxer who is a bit small for the standard and has some minor flaws that prohibit her from competing competitively in the ring but she LOVES to show. She gets all happy when that show lead comes out and you can just tell. My second dog who was sold to us as a "specials quality" is a 10 month old Australian Shepherd who seems to much rather chase any number of the 12 cats in the house then worry about practicing for show.
I wish you luck and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. I am no expert and am a relative newbie to the show ring myself but I can help with what I know.

It is possible to show a dog so much they don't like it anymore and the one thing you can't force a dog to do, is be happy (which they need to win). You know your dog best, most dogs love it - if your dog is a happy, out-going dog who loves the attention and the atmosphere at the shows, you needn't worry about it. He'll let you know when he needs a break. Dogs who are being seriously campaigned for top in their breed or group are shown pretty much every weekend of the year and they still love it provided they have some down time to relax in between.

Hi Brad
I love watching the dog shows and to me it looks like the dogs love it just as much as there owners do. I don't think they would get fed up with it. Its a great show and it shows other people just what a dog can do if its train right. Good luck with your Border Collie

Some dogs like to do dog shows, some don't.
Some will be excited and enjoy it all of their show life, others may not.
Some dogs show great and some will take the patience of a saint to show at all.
Dogs, like people, vary in personality, intelligence, and attitude. Even within a specific breed.
One thing though, the more shows you go to , the more you will learn and the more comfortable you will be showing your dog.
Sounds like you are in for alot of fun. Good Luck.

I used to show dogs, if the dog is enjoying it then show as often as you like, but if you really get the bug for showing, dont take it out on your dog if he does'nt win, just keep showing that you love him/her. good luck.
