sure... depending on the work-out and the diet... and how overweight your buddy was. losing that much weight in 45 days usually isn't the most recomended thing to do though... i dont know why, but donctors usually take interest in big weight changes like that during check-ups and such.
the slower method is usually safer.

My friend lost 45lbs in 2 months by jogging 3 miles a day 3 days a week and benchpressing a bit. He eliminated fast foods and the key.. he took Hydroxycut. Not the hardcore one.
And he is keeping it off, in fact, he's lost an additional 20lbs in 6 months after this.

maybe however it wouldn't be that healthy for you to keep it off would be harder after such a quick lose oof so much weight in a short amount of time.
