I sent an sms to a guy I'm friends with letting him know I like him (the words I used were "want to be more than casual friends"). Generally how much time would he be likely to need to respond to this? He sent an sms to me 3 1/2 hours ago saying he would need a little time to prepare his answer. What does it mean if it takes him a long time to reply?

I asked him out about a week ago and he was very keen to get together but I didn't make it sound like a date and it really didn't feel like one. I decided subtle was too confusing so I'd be straight. I'm scared I might have frightened him a little.

I finally just got the answer. He called me. He just doesn't feel that way about me. I guess it's better at least to know.

You asked, so here's your answer. He is probably working on a way to let you down nicely. At least he respects you enough to be civil.

Being optimistic, he could be preparing something special setting up a reservation at a nice restaurant and getting flowers. Maybe he is coming up with something nice to say.

On the other hand if you take a negative approach to it, trying to tell you he's not interested.

Good luck.

Could be one of 2 things. Either he needs time to buy flowers, or he has somebody else. From his SMS to you, I gather that he's not dense.

Well alot of guys are sweethearts, and yes I know some are jerks, But Its ok if he doesn't immediatly respond. He may have to get his head together. But you may want to go up to him and ask him for his answer

he doesn't want to hurt your feelings
it's kind of sad that people today do courtship rituals over machinery, when I read only the first part of your question I was going to say 1 second, because you can instantly read body language

That he has to think about if he likes you or not as more then just friends. Hopefully he's trying to think of something romantic to say.
