I've drunk Chinese wines when I was in China and a few that have been exported when I was back home. They were well made and OK.

China is currently planting huge areas of vineyards and when the vines mature, and when local winemakers hone their skills I think China will become a major player. That's just as well, because they have an enormous home market for wine.

As new wine growers they will need to learn which varieties work best in which areas -- something that the Europeans took hundreds of years to understand and that the rest of the new world are still coming to grips with, but I expect in 10 years inexpensive Chinese wines will be appearing in western supermarkets and in 50 years that fine Chinese wines will be competing for the top awards with France and and California.

Good luck to them !
