Yes, she was a virgin her whole life. When the angel Gabriel told her that she was going to have a child, she questioned him as to how because she had had no relations with a man. Then the angel told her about the Holy Spirit allowing it to happen and such. She was in God's plan the entire time. He knew that the woman He was going to let have His Son needed to stay pure (sinless) because Jesus was pure (divine thus sinless) and He could not pass through a sinful person. That's how we know that Mary was conceived without sin herself. She was pure and was to remain always pure. Her parents were old and had no children and they prayed to God that if He would grace them with a child, they would give that child to the temple. When Mary was about 3 or 4 her mother brought her to the temple to live and learn about God. (this temple was for female virgins that were dedicated to God by either their parents or by themselves, like being a nun today). When her father died, she was to be cared for by another male (all women had to be in the care of a male, like some countries still today). Many men were talked about at the temple and Joseph was picked to be her care-giver, not a husband. He was much older. When the angel Gabriel told Joseph and Mary about her having a child, they both knew it was impossible because they hadn't ever had sexual relations. This is how they knew that this child was very special, a true gift from God. And also the angel told them He was the Son of God. Joseph was embarrassed that Mary was pregnant and was going to secretly give her to someone else or just leave her. The angel again came to him and told him he had to stay and help Mary raise this boy. They then were married (before she was showing, I think). They only were married because she was pregnant but their vow to each other was still to be in a caregiver relationship. They never had sex. Mary was to stay pure and Joseph knew that.

The references in the Bible about Jesus' brothers didn't mean that these men were His brothers as we know the word 'brother' today to mean. Ancient Hebrew language didn't have a word for each relative like we do now. All males in a family were called brothers and all females in the family were called sisiters. So these men were either his uncles and/or cousins. And when Jesus, on the cross, told John to behold his mother and Mary to behold her son, this didn't mean that John was Jesus' brother either. Ancient tradition was that when a husband died, the eldest son was to care for his mother, if that son died, the next son was to care for her and so on. Since Jesus' had no brothers and Mary had no other sons, Jesus told John, His closest disciple and the only one at the crucifixion, to take care of Mary. Mary lived with John after Jesus' death until she died.

No Mary was far from a virgin. The word Virgin today is different from the word Virgin in those days/ Look into the previous meaning.

If a woman has never been touched she was called a Hymen I think thats how you spell it. Mary was not referred to as this.

To have a spiritual conception meaning the man and woman are pure in heart when making love to make a baby that is a virgin birth. Its like you can sex a girl with sex in mind and you can make love to a woman in a pureness of mind spirit and soul that would be classed as a virgin birth and any woman can claim to be a virgin in that sense.

The word Virgin also is related to Virgo. As I said do your research or purchase a magazine or Audio cd info below

Yes she had to be a virgin, for the Son of God to be Born. Unlike us Jesus was born perfect (without sin).
Somebody in their reply said that Mary stayed a virgin,, that's not in the Bible. She had other children and I don't think they where born through immaculate conception.
Mary was a normal woman who was found favourable by God. Read Luke chapter 1 and 2.

I can't tell you any more than whether or not it is POSSIBLE that she was. Yes, it is possible. That episode where the angel appears to her and tells her she is going to have a baby, etc.? If one theorized that what happened was a time-traveler or a space-traveler appeared, and she had no other way to describe what happened, so she said angel. Then the entity (whomever) may have done an artificial insemination or otherwise stimulated pregnancy (perhaps in a way we don't even know about today), and again, she would have no way to describe what happened.

Science fiction and fantasy writers have played with this for some time. Sorry if this seems disrespectful to the faithful, but the fact is, everything is grist for the science fiction writer's mill.

As far as I can tell, there's no reason to believe she wasn't. There's also no reason to believe she did anything but adopt the child and she was told that she was going to have to adopt it in advance. It wasn't explained to her very well because no-one wanted to delve too deeply into the reason why the actual parents were getting rid of the kid. They just decided the less said the better and avoided the issue.... Joe knew the score.

The baby was given to her to bring up as her own by the equivalent of the local council authorities. She was both prudish and a bit thick and tried to maintain both stories that the child was hers and that she'd never had sex. Both cannot be, and are not, entirely true.

Yes of course, because God gave Mary the child, Mary didn't have sex with Joseph to have Jesus.

I saw a documentary which questioned the bible, after scrolls had been found stating that Mary had three other sons before giving birth to Jesus.

I didn't know what to think.... It left me puzzled, I felt like one of pavlovs' experiments.
