It's all up to you. Evidently you want to get away. For the child's safety I would not travel very far and would consider a place were there are good doctors and medicines.

I would combine family and tourism. That way I could satisfy grandparents and have trustworthy babysitters so the couple can getaway and enjoy.

Start planning for next year!

Are you sure you want to fly with an infant so young? I don't think his immune system will be up to dealing with nasty recycled airplane air. I catch a cold almost everytime I fly. Maybe this would be a good year to stay home and just be together in your own home for a week or so. Alternatively maybe rent a house in the Outerbanks. The beach can be beautiful in the winter and it's easy to get a reservation at the restaurants.

That would depend on where you are currently located and your budget. It could be as far as another expensive country like Switzerland or as close as the nearest resort or even a relative's house that your wife would love to see and hasn't seen in a long time. For me, Xmass is mostly about family and children.

Alex, Alex, Alex, leave the baby w/grams & gramps! Have a nice break w/the wife - by that time you'll both need it. You can jump start the husband-wife relationship and enjoy yourselves. The baby won't remember the trip - wait until he is older and can enjoy the experience fully - think Disney Land.

you should take your wife and son some place special that you can take pictures of, and some place you can go every year to have memories.

You should find someone to keep your son, he is too young, even by then. By then he will know and love his own bed and want to be in it at night or else you will be in trouble.
