My 7 year old daughter is having problem paying attention in class and doing her classwork on time. She understand her work and makes As & Bs, but sometimes the teacher gives her extra time to finish her work and saids that she cannot continue doing this and because of my dauther inactivity she may not be ready for 3rd grade. I need help getting an expert on ADD in New Orleans area and how to help my child pay more attention. Is there any program that helps child and parents coupe with ADD? I prefer not to medicate her. Is there any other good solutions? I now some people said to cut on sugar, but she dosen't eat much.

this is a very good question. I'm not an doctor but I've been dealing with my ADHD. all my life. I'm 33 now. and have a lot of experience. get her into something she likes. yes i agree 1000% NO DRUGS when i was in school i was prescribed all kinds a garbage. it made me a zombie. you yourself learn everything you can on it. the hardest thing to do is for someone with it to explain it to someone who doesn't. i started playing guitar. find something to focus the energy. once she finds something like a hobby. like an instrument, sport, writing or any focus. ask her what she likes to do. and go with that. encourage her. you'll find when people with ADD/ADHD are focused they can concentrate harder than people without it. but it does take a lot to get that focused. i dealt with that my whole life. i do video games and computers now. because technology is what i enjoy. when I'm into it, the world around me disappears. and just from a friend to a friend keep her off medication unless it is absolutely necessary. sugar has nothing to do with it.. hope i helped ....if you want more advice go under my profile and e-mail me. i would love to help.
