I remember when we were kids we would make all kinds of weird noises and make up fake words. He started making the same noises and words we made up as kids during prayer. Then everyone started yelling out jibberish and making funny noises. I started getting scared. He told me later everyone was just talking to god. he really scared me away from that church. Is that normal?

We must keep in mind that the spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit and must not be considered unimportant. The use of them is to exalt the Lord and build up the body of believers. The possession of a spiritual gift is not to be thought of as making one believer more holy or more spiritually advanced than another. It is important to note that Paul admonishes that these gifts must be governed by love and that all things should "be done decently and in order" (1 Corinthians 14:40). A good test of any spiritual ministry or experience is whether or not it honors God and exalts the Lord Jesus Christ.

You were in a Pentecostal church. They think extactic utterance is tongue speaking, but if you read Acts chapter 2 you will find that the tongues of the bible were earth languages and the people from each reagion understood what the apostles said in their own tongue or language.

go to catholic church or any other orthodox church ..
moreover, my oppinion, any church that is not orthodox (catholic, apostolic, and greek orthodox) has not the right to call themselves christian .. because they in one or another way change the bible and interpret it according to their needs .. and in the bible it clearly says that this is a BIG sin !
now i guess i'm gonna get a lot of "bad" ratings for this post, but i don't care .. i'm more than sure that i'm right !

they were praying in tongues.. thats a gift from the lord when u receive the holy spirit and accept christ.. u can get any gift.
