I've always believed 'popular demand' creates increases in prices. People often will still continue to travel because it's Christmas. Same reason gas prices increase in summer........people vacation at that time.............so we have 'popular demand' again. (I chuckle at the 'other' reasons, and they always have them)!
Merry Christmas!

yes, we are in a recession, and airlines have cut many flights to many destinations because they have not been filling seats. But on average, airline prices are 11% LOWER than they were a year ago. You need to book advance tickets at least 4 weeks before or 7-2 days before you fly for the best rates. You are at the second most expensive stage of an airline ticket's lifespan. From 3 weeks to 7 days before the flight the price goes up, and then down at 6 days prior to departure (if there are seats left, which is unlikely before a holiday). The most expensive ticket is the day before or the day of the flight. Airlines have spoiled passengers the past year by dropping prices so low that THEY don't make enough money to pay their bills, and now they have to keep out of bankruptcy. In my opinion, it shouldn't be cheaper to fly than to take the bus. Check out Greyhound if $300 is too much.

Have to comment off "some chick". Airlines aren't rip offs. You think that every domestic carrier except American Airlines IS in bankruptcy status because they think it's entertaining? No of course not, they are because to many people started to wait last min. Thus the airlines were losing money. Whose fault was this? The airlines of course. But NOW things are changing and it's time to pay what real airfare is going to cost from here on out. If you think it's a rip off...guess you are staying home or driving. With gas the way it is now and how long it takes to drive to a place, increasing the # of days taken from work doesn't mean you will save money.....anyways on to what I wanted to say here.
It's peak season, people pay for them so they will charge them. Plus prices are based on availability and I can tell you I started booking Christmas for people 5 months ago so you are a bit late in the game and will pay more.
Prices are increasing, book in advance! Even if you book in advance it doesn't guarantee that you will get a good price as again it is based off availability. Plus travel in general is increasing in cost and much against popular belief this isn't just because of fuel costs.
Best of luck, if you are looking for x-mas dates now you are going to need it! Just know...closer you get in to x-mas it will not go down in price.

It stinks, but it is normal in business. It is called supply and demand. High demand, limited supply = higher cost. Low demand with high supply = lower cost. Think of it this way... you're dying of thirst in a desert and fine *one guy* selling ice water. What would you pay? See my point? The airlines get you during the busy times. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to do it myself and probably will have to charge it. Got a good deal at this site:

One of the wonderful things about life. Christmas in general has become a holiday that is hard to deal with. Why does everyone have to be so money hungry. Can they not enjoy life without it?
