"ad infinitum" completes the final part of the verse.

"Big fleas have little fleas
Upon their backs to bite'em
And little fleas have lesser fleas
And so ad infinitum".

This verse could have derived from Jonathan Swift's 1733 "On Poetry: A Rhapsody," which verse originally goes like this:

"So Nat'ralists observe, a Flea
Hath smaller Fleas that on him prey;
And these have smaller still to bite 'em,
And so proceed ad infinitum.♥
