It works after a fashion. Similar to a Ouija board, its a tool that helps lead you to answers.
When I have trouble making a decision (i.e. watch this movie or that movie, buy something or not) I usually just flip a coin. It saves much hemming and hawing.
For the times you don't care that much about the answer, Magic 8 ball works perfect. If your subconscious really wanted the answer to come out a certain way, magic 8 ball helps you realize it.
If you really want to tune in to answers in your deep subconscious, look at I Ching. This is an ancient method of divination, something like Tarot but easier to learn. This really works, because you interpret the answers yourself. The answers are something like riddles. Your subconscious plays a big role when you figure out what the answer really means.
I put a link to one of many sites that cast your I Ching for you. This particular link seems legit. Caution though, a lot of sites dealing with fortune telling are total scams. Never give personal information to these people.

I think so. I just asked my magic 8 ball if this was a stupid question. It replied, "Definately". So I guess so.

Just ask it if it's a tool of Satan. If it says yes then you know it would NEVER lie to you, right? If it says no, then how strong could its magical powers be?
