I think the character of Jesus as a focal point creates a cult of personality, similar to what we see in modern dictatorships (e.g. Iraq's Sadam Hussein, Cuba's Fidel Castro, China's Mao) or transgressive cults like the Manson Family and the Branch Davidians. A healthy ideology simply has good principles, but dictatorships and cults have an unhealthy focus on an individual leader whose word must be obeyed without question.
It is also worth noting that Islam places similar focus on Mohammed, and that these two major religions came out of the same area at about the same time (supposedly 600 years between the births of Christ and Mohammed). We can conclude that human societies had evolved into a condition where this type of leadership became necessary, just as it was once necessary for the king himself to be a god (the Egyptian pharoah).
In the past, the old gods always gave way for the new. It is a shame that civilization has since evolved past the conditions that compelled the creation of these religions, and yet they continue to outstay their welcome. Or perhaps the problem is that we have not since created a new god.
As for the behavior of Christians, well, they're modern day Pharisees. The Bible speaks against most of the people who call themselves Christians today.

The tone of your question suggests that you don't think very much of Christians. I'll take a chance and assume you are trying to understand Christians and their beliefs. In the scriptures, Jesus commanded His followers to share the good news (the Gospel) with everybody. That is why I declare that Jesus is not only my Savior....but He is your Savior too. I often pray for people I hardly know. Does it surprise you that someone might care for your well being ? Put aside your bitterness and honestly look for answers about God. He promises in His Word that if you truly look for Him...you will find Him.

Do not judge us that way. We don't say he is our savior just to kiss up. We say it because it is true! We will NEVER know if we'll enter the gates of heaven so why do you say it that way? If someone says they'll go to heaven, it's not his decision, only God's!
You are mocking my religion! If you complain about our beliefs then keep this to yourself. We pray for others because we care not because it's bull$hit as you said. You have no respect for us because you are judging us too quickly.
We are not trying to prove anything. We are trying to praise and love our Lord. You may not understand but the only thing you need to know is that WE have our tradition and YOU have yours.
We love our God, we respect others decisions. If you're not catholic, it's fine because I'm not forcing you to become a catholic.
If you got to know our religion a bit more, you'll understand why I was so offended by your question.

anger, that is very adorable, Jesus loves you. wait, that was forced in my head, so i guess it is better that i play childish jokes on people. You know why you are angry, of course you do, because those stupid Christians are right. We speak what we are told to speak, this is no religion this is an army. God is the commander and we do what we are ordered to do, we tell you what he told us to tell you. So that conviction inside is not from men, that is from god and he who remains stiff necked after many rebukes shall be destroyed without remedy. your days have been numbered, you have been weighed and found wanting, no more games, repent or suffer not the wrath of man but the wrath of the lord our God Jesus Christ, you have been warned. This is not a game, this is not some thing that is real because we believe or not, you will find out very soon how real The lord our god is.

A little bitter are we?What should we say ,Howard Stern is our savior?(He is funny though). If you don't believe in prayer ,why does it bother you?I've prayed for lots of people over the last 20 years ,was it always coincidence when it payed off? I don't know and wouldn't take credit if I did.All glory to God.If you asked me to pray for you I would.Would it do any good ? Don't know.I do know it is not bull$hit, and God is very real. It's not trying to impress,it's that we want people not to go to hell,we know how bad it will be.If I see you walking toward the edge of a cliff,I'm going to say something . If you don't listen and walk off that's your BAD,not mine.

people is as people does (sorry, wooded area Gump). we oftentimes ignore that the super value become preceded via the excellent Commandments - to love God and to love others. We additionally ignore that God inspired Paul to make a super record of the attributes of love in 1st Cor. 13. Jesus left us with the excellent occasion of the thank you to handle human beings and various do no longer word. He on no account positioned every person down, insulted human beings or all started pointless arguments. Jesus went approximately doing reliable, therapeutic, ministering and befriending all. He did no longer choose, belittle, insult, malign or any of that immature rubbish.

I get bummed about this too. I used to practice writing philosophical theology, and the act of writing, "God is my savoir," or "God is good" is uplifting, you are gently guiding your mind to experience that bliss which can be unlocked through the power of the written word. So I guess the same goes for christians, they say "Jesus is my savior", not to ensure them a place in heaven, but as a momentary uplifting and to possibly strengthen their beliefs.
I do however feel as if this is a personal thing, and just as I don't go around saying to myself "God is divinity and he is pure love" I think other people should not necessarily say things about Jesus in the same way especially around people they know do not think in that manner. I play guitar and practice music, but I don't practice scales and sing DO-Ray-Mi-Fa, etc in public, so I wouldn't start chanting bible verses or philosophy in public either. I guess the point is to be tolerant of others beliefs and accept that that is their way of finding salvation. You wouldn't make fun of a kid who was practicing how to shoot a basketball, so I wouldn't make fun of the same kid who is trying to find love for Jesus.

When I pray for people, I usually pray that they're hit by a truck. Should I be praying for you?
