When missionaries came to Australia, they saw how Indigenous Australians were living free and unclothed. This was a huge sin in their eyes. Traditional language and culture was discouraged.

Missionaries soon asked the government for assistance. In return, hundreds of missions and reserves were set up throughout Australia for the purpose of assimilating Indigenous people into "White society". The women were raped, children set away to work of farms for little or no wage, and the men were sent to work and go to war despite the fact we were not being classed as citizens a the time.

Today, I am a proud Australian Aboriginal woman who's learning the very same language they took away from us, I feel very proud to speak it as I speak it for the one's who couldn't due to the oppression periods in Australia.

I apologize for that first post, it looked horrific. So I have reworded it.

I am respectful of your heritage and culture as I am sure you are respectful of the heritage and culture of others. What I attempting to say was that from all the suffering your people endured, think of the positives that came from such a gross negative.

I am in no way saying that it was necessary or even warranted I have read about the "Dreamtime" that is part of your cultures belief system and I find the story highly interesting.

It does greatly sadden me for it is a tragic thing that happened, I am always aghast to know that in the name of Jesus these people and so many others did what they did to your people and so many others around the world. I and every other Christian will be apologizing forever for those crimes and atrocities.

My point is again, from that gross negative God turn it into a great positive for your people. He took the foolishness of man and used it to benefit you and your people in many ways. Your people now have greater opportunity in someways than you would have had otherwise.

Christian missionaries were often well meaning but deluded.

There is nothing wrong with the body or nakedness.

Tribalism is still probably the best form of government, but it ONLY works in small communities.

One big problem with organized religion is they keep repeating the original sin.

Jesus said you have to be like little children.

It's too late to go back now, so you have to move forward.

The missionaries introduced the concept of Good and Evil and now you're stuck with it.

You have to find your own way out.

Sorry, but that won't help much.

Adam and Eve couldn't undo things and neither can you.

Read the 10 commandments, read what Jesus was about, forget the rest.

That's about the best I can do for you.

I have to say, I've never studied up on the history of Australia, and I have to admit that's interesting. But again, you can't blame every Christian for what a few did, as sad as it seems. Many Christians think that anyone that hasn't heard of the biblical God has an automatic sentence to hell - but they have to remember that they are not the judge and jury for every human out there. Also many governments use religion as their "foot in the door", so to speak. I'm glad the "oppresion periods" are done and congrats on learning a new language.

Christianity is a monotheistic[1] religion centered on Jesus of Nazareth, and on his life and teachings as presented in the New Testament. Christians believe Jesus to be the Messiah and thus refer to him as Jesus Christ. With an estimated 2.1 billion adherents in 2001, Christianity is the world's largest religion. It is the predominant religion in the Americas, Europe, Philippine Islands, Oceania, and large parts of Africa. It is also growing rapidly in Asia, particularly in China and South Korea, and Northern Africa.

The history of Christianity in Africa south of the Sahara begins in the fifteenth century, with the arrival of the first missionaries carrying the gospel from Europe. The story of these missionaries is equally Catholic and Protestant, is equally the story of Liberal Christians and Evangelicals, is equally the story of women missionaries and men; but the story of the spread of Christianity in Africa during the last five centuries is far more the story of African Christians spreading the gospel in Africa than it is the story of European or American Christians spreading the gospel in Africa.

Unfortunately African Christians rarely recorded their stories, while European and American missionaries regularly sent letters to their relatives, mission boards and financial supporters in Europe and America. As a result we know far more about European and American missionaries than we do about the African catechists and evangelists whose role in bring Christianity all over Africa is far more significant. The least here on earth, they are assured of great honor in heaven.

Modern African Churches can, for the sake of convenience, be divided into three main groups, though there are far greater differences within each group than there are between the three, and that there are very important continuities from the one to the other.

Because when people are raped and pillaged and killed and tortured into believing something, the people will do anything to avoid such horrors, including accepting the forced religion. Generations later the religion becomes tradition and the terrible way the religion was forced upon them is forgotten. You should be proud of who you are and who your ancestors were.

kooridoll,
G'day. I'm sorry that those terrible things happened. I was in Perth when I heard a local Aussie man read the riot act to an aboriginal woman. I stared him down though and he left her alone. I think that she was trying to find something in the trash. I think that he had a problem with that.

I'm glad that you are proud of your heritage. Grace to you.

What you're describing is not true Christianity. Those things you mention were perhaps done in the name of Christianity, but none of them are professed in the Bible... none! What you've described are the professed rules and ways of evil men who twisted and perverted Christianity into something for their own personal gain!
So, if you're not going to read the Bible and see for yourself what it says, don't be jabberin' about nonsense that you know nothing about! Too many people are doing just what you're doing... talkin' out their back side! Parroting what others say instead of reading the Truth for themselves!
So, go on - i challenge you to read the Bible for yourself!
(I'll bet you can't and won't though!). You'd rather spout off about trash you've read about or heard... NOT read out of the Bible for yourself!
Ignorance I have NO tolerance for!

The only way to the father is thru Jesus that is what the bible says and it is the only way to get to heaven. The Lord tells us not to question but to believe, if your wondering about christianity then your leaning in the right direction. Just believe that Jesus died for your sins and make sure that you have repented your sins and you are assured a home in heaven for eternity. Always remember the ONLY way to the father is through the son.
God bless you.

Forgive them, do not call them Christians, for not all who call on the name of Jesus shall enter the kingdom of God. They were religious, not of god, they were the Pharisees whom Jesus stood against. No where in the bible does it allow any thing which you said, no where, and it was an insult to me, to those who did this, war. The God whom they thought they served, will utterly destroy them and any who share their belief, I am heart broken that these false prophets smeared the truth and love of Jesus with their hypocrisy, they have led you astray and so will be punished for their actions. I will pray that true believers and followers of the lord Jesus Christ minister his word unto you.
