GIve the guy an answer -

"I have a tenative date for the dance, but they are supposed to confirm tomorrow. I will let you know either way."

Lets them know you care and are not a superficial flake.

be honest, but don't burn any bridges (u want 2 go 1 way or the other) tell the first lad, that you have to ask permission first and ask for a day or two before answering. in the mean time if #2 lad doesn't ask then give the 1 st lad a big yes, for thinking enough of you to have asked in the beginning

Is there some reason you can't just tell the guy that you will decide tomorrow, and then wait for this other fellow to see if he asks?

well that is totally up to you, if a better offer comes to the table tell your other friend that something came up and this boy you like just asked you. it may be harsh, but so is going to the dance with someone else rather than the boy you want to go with...good luck

What if the guy doesn't ask you tomorrow. What if tomorrow never comes?

This other guy who is supposed to ask you tomorrow, are you sure that he will ask you? Because if he doesn't then you'll lose them both..
