Why do girls ask stupid questions?

I'm having a normal conversation with my ex-girl (we started talking again a week ago), and suddenly she comes out of nowhere with, "Are you lonely?" I give her a sort of sarcastic response, and she acts disappointed or something and ends the conversation.
Why would you ask a question like that expecting some sort of answer and then get all huffy when you don't get the right response?

Some of us girls are finnicky. We set up guys to say exactly what we want them to say, giving them the chance to say it. That way, if they want to say it, they can. Then when they do say it, life is great and we're all smiles. When they don't, people are bad and life is too hard. It's just how some of us are. The smart ones are straight forward, but we not-so-smart ones are still learning. Then again, some of the smart ones have perfected this so it goes the right way every time. Women are like the ocean. Many miles have been mapped and scientists know everything there is to know about these areas. And then there are the places too deep to reach, and they have no idea what goes on there.

Do you really consider a sarcastic response to be a "right response?"

She obviously has a reason for asking this question and maybe she just doesn't know the right way to go about it. Try asking her why she asked. And then give her an honest answer.

Because they ask dumb questions when they really want to ask something else but they dont because they're afraid of being hurt, and most chicks think they have a degree in guy-ology, so instead of asking you, they just "assume" what you're feeling.

Most girls are stupid and so are guys....

And when i say "most girls" I mean "not me". Well I am, but just in different ways.

I agree with Lucky she is most likely lonely and missing you but won't admit to it unless you admit that you miss her first. That's just how women work she's trying to protect herself from getting hurt.

Well, obviously she misses you and was hoping you missed her too. Apparently, she misread you because if she didn't think you felt the same way she wouldn't have asked.
