Boy - what a lot of nonsense from both sides.
First - What's God's will for your life? The scriptures are pretty clear - 'live a holy and righteous life.'
You're not going to be able to search the scriptures and find out whether or not you should break up with him. I've read the Bible several times, and I'm confident God did not inspire one of the authors to put a secret message for you regarding this.
God's job is not to make every decision for us, He gives us general guidelines, then lets us decide almost everything else ourselves. If He wants to intervene, He will do so in a way that's unmistakeable, like he did with Saul on the road to Damascus. If God wants you to do something, He's not going to fail; it will be clear and unmistakeable.
Some have said you should have a peace about your decision. That's hogwash. Sometimes you'll do the right thing and have a peace about it, and sometimes you won't. Do you think Jesus had a peace about it when he went to the cross? He was so concerned about it he was sweating blood while praying for God to remove the burden from him. But he did it anyway, because it was the right thing to do.
If it turns out breaking up is the right thing to do, I guarantee you will have heartache for a while.
If you're going to ask God for a sign - don't make it ambiguous. Too many people look for a sign and jump at the weirdest stuff. I once heard a guy call into a radio show saying the leaves blowing into his garage were a sign for him to do something.
No - you need to do this right. This is the almighty Lord you're tlaking about. Do something like what Gideon did with the fleeces - ask for a sign which could only be a miracle. For example, you could ask God to levitate the TV if God wants you to break up. But, like Gideon, you have to also do the opposite. Why don't you ask God to levitate the couch if he doesn't want you do break up with him. If neither happens you can feel comfortable that God has chosen to not intervene in this circumstance and He's trusting you to use the wisdom he's given you.
Here's what I recommend:
1) Is your relationship with this person holy? If you're breaking one of His laws, then it's an unholy relationship and you should break it off immediately.
2) If the relationship is holy, then you should ask yourself what you want to do. Make a wise decision.
3) If you're still unsure, seek some wise counsel from several sources. If your parents have shown wisdom in their relationships (i.e., they've both been married only once, and are still married), they'd be good people to go to. You might look for another couple who has shown wisdom in their relationships.
Wanting to know about hearing God's voice? I'd recommend this article, http://www.str.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=5291.
Hope that helps!

There's no such thing as the devil for that would be an oxymoron to God, you can't have both. Be quite and listen, if things are falling apart it's only in your mind not in the illusion that you think you are, change your mind and the things around you will change.
The sign is in front of u, Love is not found through another, you have to love yourself first. good luck. I AM. S

We do not see God performing miracles or signs by the hands of his Christian servants today. Early use of signs and miracles were mainly for testimonial purposes. There is no need for signs or miracles now-a-days because all needed things are present and available to the literate population of the world, and to help those who cannot read but who will listen, there are mature Christians who have knowledge and wisdom gained by study and experience. It is not necessary for God to perform such miracles at this time to attest to Jesus Christ as God’s appointed deliverer, or to provide proof that He is backing up His servants. Even if God were to continue to give his servants the ability to perform miracles, that would not convince everyone, for not even all the eyewitnesses of Jesus’ miracles were moved to accept his teachings. (Joh 12:9-11) However, scoffers are warned by the Bible that there will yet be stupendous acts of God performed in the destruction of the present system of things.—2Pe 3:1-10

If it is God, there is peace. Plus the 'thing' that you will do lines up with scripture. Like, God won't tell you to kick somebody. The devil, on the contrary, will try to make something bad look good. That's where being tight with God comes in. Knowing Him personally is where it's at. You'll know His voice, His presence, His leading. And you can only know Him by seeking Him and spending time with Him.

One of the Bible's most comforting truths is that God wants to guide us. He loves us, and He knows what is best for us—and because of this, He wants to show us His will. The Bible says, "In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:6).
But you're right: Sometimes the devil also tries to guide us, and we have to be careful we don't follow him instead of God when we need to make a decision. How can you keep this from happening, and be sure God is guiding you? Let me suggest three steps:
First, make sure of your relationship with Jesus Christ. Have you confessed your sins to Him and asked Him to come into your life as your Lord and Savior? If you haven't done this, or if you are unsure of your salvation, turn by faith to Him and ask Him to come into your life today.
Then pray and ask God to guide you in this decision. Often, we want to tell God what we want Him to do—but ask Him to help you guard against this, and to seek His will instead of your own. We must be willing to do His will, whatever it is.
In addition, search His Word, the Bible, for guidance; God never guides us to do anything that is contrary to His Word. Seek also the advice of people who can help you—people who know God and have spiritual discernment. When we truly seek God's will in this way, He has promised to guide us.

That is why we should not spend our time looking for signs from God. We can be fooled, or we can mistake our own subconscious for God "speaking to us." Everything God needed to tell you is in the Bible. Everything is explained in Scripture. Live your life, pray, but don't expect a mystical sign. Quite often God's answers are in life's subtleties.

If it is God, you can always back up what you are being told in the Bible, search the scriptures for your answer and you will have peace about it. The devil will never try to make you do anything that will be good for you or any one else.

Good question. I have often wondered the same thing. Problem is, the only way I know to tell is from how the situation turns out in the end.

It's easy. Neither exists, so anything that may appear to be such a sign isn't one. It is provable that neither belief in, or non-belief in god has any predictive power whatever, so you need to apply logic to a situation, not superstition.
